Spring startup
- Open the main valve slowly
- Inspect the backflow preventer
- Run each zone and check heads for coverage and leaks
- Set the controller schedule for the season
- Replace the controller battery
Fall winterization
- Shut off the water supply
- Blow out each zone with compressed air (where it freezes)
- Drain and protect the backflow
- Set the controller to off or rain mode
Record
- Note zone count and controller model
- Photograph repairs needed
- Quote repairs before leaving
